Patients, families, and grateful community members who have benefited from and appreciate the excellent care provided by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and University of Iowa Children's Hospital continue to give back.
Contributions to the hospitals' Caring Fund—which 1,427 patients and other friends supported with gifts totaling $44,437 in fiscal year 2006—are used to fund ongoing enhancements in all aspects of patient care and services at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
In addition to these gifts to the annual Caring Fund, thousands of individuals and corporations supported specific clinical areas and programs that enhance the care experience for patients and their families, including Patient's Library, Spiritual Services, and Child Life Therapy. From January 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006, nearly 6,995 contributors gave UI Hospitals and Clinics and University of Iowa Children's Hospital more than $2.35 million.

Private gifts help us excel
Like most hospitals in Iowa, UI Hospitals and Clinics and University of Iowa Children's Hospital are predominantly funded by patient fees and payments that help cover the cost of staffing, equipment, facilities, and other needs. With private support from patients, families, and friends, the hospital can maintain the high-quality facilities and services that patients have come to expect.
