The comeback kid
The inspiring story of Lindsay Thomas, 18, personifies
how some people make a difference in the lives of others so
that they, in turn, can make a difference of their own.
Thomas survived five days trapped inside a car at the bottom
of a ditch, following an accident in April 2001. A state
road crew finally found the car, leading to a dramatic
recovery at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Her care was provided
by a team of physicians and support staff. Since the
accident, Thomas has learned to walk on prosthetic legs and
has made other dramatic strides toward recovery. Her
determination inspired caregivers as well as millions of
people worldwide who learned of her remarkable story through
newspapers, television, and the Internet.
