The University of Iowa, including University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is prohibited in all University-owned building, University-owned or –leased vehicles, and on all University grounds. This includes recreational facilities, athletic facilities, parking lots, and enclosed parking facilities.
UI Hospitals and Clinics has been smoke free inside the building since the 1980s. Prohibiting smoking outdoors on our campus reflects our responsibility to patients, their families, visitors, staff, faculty, volunteers, and students to create a safe and healthy environment in which to receive and give care.
Inpatients
UI Hospitals and Clinics faculty and staff will work with hospitalized patients to assess their tobacco use and establish a plan during their hospital stay. Cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapies such as patches, gum, or lozenges are available.
Outpatients
Clinic patients who choose to use nicotine replacement therapies while on campus should plan to bring their own supply or purchase gum or lozenges at the Ambulatory Care Pharmacies in General Hospital or Pomerantz Family Care Center (Level 2)
Visitors should use nicotine replacement therapies while on our campus, or leave UI Hospitals and Clinics property to smoke.
The map outlines the UI Health Sciences campus. No smoking is permitted within the area defined by the green shading.
