Iowa's Academic
Medical Center
University of Iowa Health Care—The University of Iowa's academic medical center—is made up of University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and University of Iowa Physicians. Together, each plays a unique role in fulfilling three shared missions of patient care, research, and education.
Comprehensive, multidisciplinary care is a hallmark of an academic medical center. The care provided by UI Health Care ranges from routine primary care to sophisticated care of patients with complex and/or rare conditions. The full spectrum of specialty and subspecialty care draws patients from Iowa, the region, and around the world.
In addition, the people of University of Iowa Health Care conduct biomedical research that has led to some of the most important discoveries in treatment for cancer, heart attack, stroke, eye diseases, hearing loss, genetic diseases, birth defects, and many other conditions.
Through its educational mission, UI Health Care trains the next generation of global leaders in patient care, medical research, and education.
