Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications

Ellen Barron was appointed associate vice president for marketing and communications with University of Iowa Health Care in August 2008.

Barron provides strategic leadership and directs all marketing, communications, and external relations activities across UI Health Care's education, research and patient care missions. She oversees internal and external communications, media relations, alumni and collegiate relations, community outreach as well as marketing services which support new business development initiatives, branding, market research, Internet strategy and advertising.

She served as an independent consultant and principal for the Profit Management Group in West Chester, PA since 2003. Before that, Barron held administrative leadership positions with Catholic Health Initiatives in Philadelphia and Denver, and at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, IL. She also has served on the board of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health Services Corporation, a large, multi-state health care system.

Barron has more than 30 years experience as a health care executive, with responsibilities and leadership in the areas of marketing communications, market research and business development, customer-service measurement, strategic planning, physician services, medical-staff development, media relations, and related communications services in both academic medical center and private hospital settings.

She earned a bachelor's degree at California State University, Sacramento and a master's degree at Bradley University, Peoria, IL.
