Interim Chief Operating Officer, UI Hospitals and Clinics
Eric Dickson MD, was appointed interim Chief Operating Officer in 2008. He provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the hospital and participates in weekly Director’s Staff meetings. In addition to spending approximately 60 percent of his time as interim COO, Dickson continues to direct the Emergency Medicine Department.
Since arriving at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in October 2003, Dickson initiated several new clinical programs within the Emergency Treatment Center (ETC). He is a strong advocate of the Baldrige National Quality Program and has been a champion for operational improvement efforts in the ETC, which last year recorded more than 40,000 patient visits. He led a $30 million expansion of the facility, the first phase opened April 2008. Academically, he initiated an emergency medicine research program to improve the care of critically ill and injured patients, and in 2004 started Iowa’s only Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program. |
