Chief of Operations, University of Iowa Health Care
Gordon D. Williams began his role as Chief of Operations of UI Health Care in September 2008 after serving as interim chief executive officer of UI Hospitals and Clinics for 10 months.
In this role he serves as a senior strategic advisor on the direction of UI Health Care and is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of clinical capital improvement projects. Additionally, he serves as the Executive Director of the Iowa Health Care International Office, and coordinates the implementation of the ambulatory care strategy.
He graduated from UI with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, and worked at the Iowa City Veteran’s Administration Medical Center and VA Central Office in Washington, D.C.
He also held leadership management positions at institutions that have also integrated their clinical, academic, and research missions, including Northwestern University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Duke University.
Prior to returning home to Iowa, Williams served as executive vice dean and chief operating officer and vice chancellor for operations at the Duke University School of Medicine and Health System. He was a major leader in the establishment of the Duke-National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School. Prior to Duke, Williams was Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs at the University of Pennsylvania, Executive Vice President of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, and held a teaching position at the University of Oxford.
He also served in the U.S. Air Force and in the Iowa Army National Guard. |
