Douglas Merrill, MD, medical director

Merrill earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed his internship and residency training in anesthesiology at Stanford University. At the University of Washington School of Medicine, he earned a certificate in Medical Management and served on the clinical teaching faculty. Merrill is board certified in anesthesiology with added qualifications in pain medicine.

He is also an assistant hospital director at UI Hospitals and Clinics and was appointed clinical professor in the Department of Anesthesia in the UI Carver College of Medicine.

Merrill most recently served as medical director for ambulatory surgery and a member of the teaching and pain clinic faculty at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle. His previous experience includes 19 years in private practice with extensive experience in pediatric and outpatient surgery, and chronic pain medicine.

 

 


Douglas Merrill, MD

Eric R. Bloom, MHA, MBA, administrator

Bloom holds a master's in health administration and a master's in business administration from The University of Iowa. He earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at Grinnell College.

Bloom joined UI Hospitals and Clinics in 2002 and was named the Administrator of Surgical Services in 2004.

He has more than 11 years of clinical and managerial experience in health care systems in East Providence, RI, Kansas City, and Des Moines.
