About Pediatric Asthma

Asthma is the most common chronic disease of children.

  • It is the leading cause of hospitalization
  • It is a major cause of missed school for the child and missed work for the parents
  • It often limits a child’s activity and interferes with sleep

Misdiagnosis
Asthma is often misdiagnosed as bronchitis or pneumonia. Our pediatric allergy and pulmonary specialists identify causes of these diagnoses and determine if they are actually misdiagnosed asthma or determine an appropriate evaluation and treatment plan if asthma is not the cause.

Exercise Breathing Problems
On the other hand, asthma is sometimes attributed inappropriately to young athletes who have breathing problems with exercise. Our sophisticated gas-exchange exercise testing equipment can determine the level of cardiovascular conditioning and identify a variety of physiological explanations for the problems frustrating these young aspiring athletes.
