Why a Gala?
Proceeds from this first-ever Blue Rose Gala: On the Edge of a Cure will support clinical trial research at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa, the only NCI-designated cancer center in Iowa. NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers are recognized as leaders in developing new approaches to cancer prevention and cancer care, conducting leading-edge research and educating the public about cancer.
Clinical trial research is where potential treatments and diagnostic tools are taken from the laboratory and brought to the clinic. They are then provided to patients who wish to participate in furthering not only their own possibilities of survival, but in improving Iowan’s—and ultimately everyone’s—chances of defeating cancer.
It is through clinical trials that so many medical breakthroughs have been made in the last 20 years, and much of this vital research is supported through private funding.
The Blue Rose Gala will start with a silent auction and cocktail hour then a live auction will follow with such items as vacation packages, a cooking experience and original artwork. Wonderful musical performances will be provided throughout the auctions and dinner, and the evening will conclude with dancing. The event is black tie optional.
