Lung Cancers


Lung cancer is the second most common site accessioned at the UIHC in the year 2006; accounting for 9.9% of our annual overall caseload.  Males make up 59% of the overall lung cancers, while females account for 41%.

Over the past five years lung cancers have remained fairly constant at UI Hospitals and Clinics; increasing 8.8% since 2002 with males accounting for the majority of lung cancer cases.

According to American Cancer Society 2006 surveillance research, lung cancer in 2006 is estimated to account for 92,700 new cancer cases for males and 81,770 new cancer cases for females.
