Complementary and Alternative Medicine Clinic

Will an herbal supplement interfere with my oncology treatment?

Does acupuncture really relieve the nausea sometimes associated with chemotherapy?

If you have asked questions like these, you may be interested in the latest service from Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa. On Wednesdays from 1 - 5 p.m., a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) clinic is being offered in the John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center. Designed specifically for cancer patients, the clinic will guide you in selecting safe and potentially helpful therapies based on your specific cancer and treatment plan. You can receive advice on which therapies work best and on community practitioners who can provide them.

The clinic will be staffed by Nicole Nisly, MD, an internal medicine physician whose expertise includes alternative medicine. Dr. Nisly has published several articles on alternative medicine and currently directs the complementary and alternative medicine programs at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

For more information, contact the Cancer Information Service at 319-356-3000 or 800-237-1225.
