Tumors that start in the brain (primary brain tumors) account for 1 percent of all cancers in the United States. Many of these brain tumors are malignant and will account for about 2 percent of all cancer related deaths. Tumors that come from another part of the body may spread to the brain. This is called a metastatic brain tumor. Most metastatic tumors to the brain come from tumors of the lung, kidney, breast and malignant melanoma.
