Testing, Diagnosis and Staging


Some gallbladder cancers are diagnosed when it is removed because of gallstones or chronic inflammation. (Whenever a body part is removed, it is examined under a microscope by a pathologist--a doctor who specializes in diagnosing disease through laboratory tests and microscopic examinations) Other gallbladder cancers are diagnosed when a person goes to the doctor with any or all of the symptoms below:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Jaundice (yellow color of the skin)
  • Gallbladder enlargement
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
