Testing, Diagnosis and Staging


In its early stages, kidney cancer usually causes no obvious signs or symptoms. Common symptoms of kidney cancer as it grows include:
  • Blood in the urine. Blood may be present one day and not the next. Sometimes the person will see the blood, other times it will be found on a routine laboratory test of urine, performed for a medical check-up.
  • A lump or mass in the kidney area.

Less Common symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Recurrent fevers
  • Pain in the side that doesn’t go away
  • A general feeling of poor health
