Myeloproliferative disorders are a group of conditions in which there is excessive production of red blood cells (polycythemia vera), white blood cells (chronic myelocytic leukemia), bone marrow fibrous tissue (myelofibrosis) or platelets (essential thrombocythemia). Often several blood cell types are increased. They are diverse in symptoms, age of patient, tendency to develop actue leukemia and type of treatment utilized.
