The pituitary is an endocrine gland that sits at the base of the brain and regulates the thyroid, adrenals and the reproductive system. Tumors of the pituitary are rare and are usually benign. Pituitary tumors may come to attention because they over produce hormones like prolactin, growth hormone or ACTH, or because they compress the optic nerves, which are situated near the pituitary.
