The Urologic Oncology Program employs a multidisciplinary
approach in designing treatment plans for patients.
Specialized treatment for cancers involving the penis,
testicles, kidneys, bladder, and prostate gland is
available. In addition to standard therapeutic modalities,
the division is an active participant in many national
trials for the treatment of urologic cancers. These trials
afford access to cutting edge modalities not available in
the community setting. Laboratory efforts have yielded
promising results for the treatment of bladder cancer.
Services
The Urologic Oncology Program offers both diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures for urological cancers. Prostate
ultrasonography, prostate needle biopsy, cystoscopy, and
selected radiographic studies can be performed at the time
of initial evaluation. Laparoscopic lymph node removal, gold
seed brachytherapy, and nerve sparing surgery for the
preservation of fertility and potency are a few of the many
services offered by Urologic Oncology.
