What Is PDQ?
PDQ stands for Physician Data Query. It is a computer
database that gives up-to-date information on cancer
treatment. PDQ was developed by the National Cancer
Institute (NCI) with the help of cancer experts from across
the country. The information in PDQ is reviewed each month
by cancer experts and updated when there is new information.
PDQ consists of several databases:
- PDQ offers patient education statements on prognosis,
staging, and treatment options in simple terminology on
all cancer sites.
- PDQC contains state-of-the-art prognostic and
treatment information written for medical professionals
on over 85 cancer sites.
- PDQP provides protocol information on over 1,000
active clinical trials, supported by NCI and other
agencies. Clinical trials are studies that use new
treatments to care for patients. During clinical trials,
information is gathered about new treatments, their
risks, and how well they do or do not work. If clinical
trials show that the new treatment is better than the
treatment currently being used, the new treatment may
become the standard treatment.
- PDQD lists names and addresses of physicians and
organizations devoted to cancer care.
Current information from any of the PDQ
databases may be obtained by calling:
