Smoking Teens: Emphysema


Emphysema

The blackened lung is from carbon staining, a result of smoking. A normal lung should be a beefy red color.

The holes in the lung are caused by a disease process called emphysema. Smoking damages the tiny air sacs in the lungs causing them to enlarge, making it difficult to breathe.
