Applications are welcome from investigators in any department or college within the University who wish to pursue projects broadly related to the biological, clinical, psychosocial, behavioral, or social problems associated with cancer research The principal investigator must have a full time affiliation with The University of Iowa and should intend to carry out the research project on campus.

Eligible junior investigators must be associates, assistant professors, instructors, or research scientists without current peer-reviewed research support from a national agency, i.e., NIH, ACS, NSF, NIOSH, etc. Senior faculty members (higher than Assistant Professor or equivalent), post-doctoral fellows, fellow associates, and junior faculty members with funding from national granting agencies are not eligible, nor are previous recipients.

The funds are to assist junior investigators in performing studies, the results of which will aid them in obtaining substantive grant support, with which to initiate independent careers in cancer research. Awardees are intended to be junior faculty members who are eligible to apply for NIH RO1 grants, but who have not yet obtained such a grant. Applicants must be, at the time of the application, citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States or its possessions and territories, or must have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence at the time of application.
