How Children's Miracle Network
funds are used

These funds have been used to:
  • Purchase specialized equipment for the cardiac catheterization laboratory at University of Iowa Children's Hospital, making it possible to perform procedures unavailable before. Instead of sending children into the operating room, University of Iowa Children's Hospital cardiac specialists can treat many of their young patients in an outpatient setting. That means the 300 or so children treated with the new equipment aren't in the hospital as long and have a shorter recovery period. The new equipment provides X-ray movie images of the arteries and beating heart of the child as the doctor aims the tip of a catheter during surgery.
  • Purchase four vending machines and the on-going financial support to provide the food items for the machines so the parents of pediatric patients can get a healthy snack anytime, day or night, without leaving their child.
  • Renovate the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
  • Purchase incubators for the Neonatal Unit so Iowa's smallest miracle babies have the proper environment to grow.
  • Build a handicapped-accessible play court.
  • Fund on-going research.
  • Purchase games, books, toys, and other items to enhance the lives of the children during their stay at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
  • Hire specially trained staff, such as Child Life Specialists.
