Patient and Donor Stories

Mike Barney joined the Coralville police force in 2000. He had donated blood in previous communities where he lived and began to donate at the City of Coralville Blood Drives held twice a year.

Carol Girdler has been a faithful donor at the DeGowin Blood Center for nearly 25 years. During this time she has donated matched platelets or white cells on Christmas, New Year’s Eve/Day, in the middle of the night or when ever she was called upon.

Liz O'Hara started working at UIHC shortly after her and her husband moved to Iowa a few years ago. She's been a blood donor for many years.

Bill Radl was inspired by a donor who donated enough blood to fill a 50 gallon barrel. I can grow new blood and share it for as long as I live.

David Williams is a man who has an enthusiasm for life and passes this on to others in many ways. He is a 14 gallon blood donor who feels that donating blood is very important. David says, “As long as I can give and I am healthy, it is up to people who are able to, to keep on donating.”
