Kabela graduated from Mt. Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, in 1988 with a BSN degree and completed her MBA/MSN degree in 1999 at The University of Iowa. She worked as a staff nurse and nurse manager before being named director of UI Dialysis Services in 2004.
