ECMO Center in Iowa
The UI ECMO Center is the only ECMO center in Iowa and one of the few programs in the nation that supports adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. The program supports patients at the bedside for as little as a few hours, up to several weeks.
The program began in 1994 with the neonatal population and has expanded to include pediatrics and adults. Continuous research and quality improvement measures are conducted at UI Hospitals and Clinics, as well as nationally and internationally, to provide ECMO patients with the best outcome possible.
ECMO is provided at more than 170 medical centers across the world. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is the only ECMO Center in Iowa and is a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).
University of Iowa will host the 20th Annual National SEECMO conference May 21-23, 2010. Information about the conference will be available soon. |
