2008 Influenza Vaccinations

For UI Hospitals and Clinics Employees:

For University of Iowa Faculty and Staff:

Since 1993, the University Employee Health Clinic has offered influenza vaccinations for staff members of all UI departments. During Fall 2007 UEHC vaccinated 9,304 hospital staff members, volunteers and students and 3,200 non-hospital staff members. UI Hospitals and Clinics preset a goal to vaccinate 95 percent of health care providers and 84 percent was achieved during the vaccination program.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual vaccinations for high-risk individuals, which include:

  • Anyone over the age of 50
  • All health care providers
  • Residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities
  • Adults who have chronic disorders of pulmonary or cardiovascular systems, including asthma and other chronic conditions such as diabetes, or kidney disease
  • Women who will be pregnant during the influenza season
  • Those who care for persons in above categories
  • Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children aged less than 6 months
