Mask Fit Testing

Mask (respirator n95) fit testing and PaPR:
  • Health questionnaire needs to be completed and reviewed by tester prior to fit testing.
  • No eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum 15 minutes prior to testing.

  • Testing is performed to assure the proper fit of a respirator. The wearer must receive fitting instructions including demonstrations and to provide maximum efficiency, there must be a tight seal between the face piece and the wearer.

  • Qualitative fit testing involves the introduction of a harmless odorous or irritating substance into the breathing zone around the respirator being worn. If no odor or irritation is detected, a proper fit is indicated.

  • PaPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) - if you have failed the n95 respirator testing or wear a beard, the PaPR is required. To obtain a PaPR, refer to the Infection Control Manual under the tuberculosis section.
