Mask Fit Testing
Mask (respirator n95) fit testing and PaPR:
- Health questionnaire needs to be completed and reviewed by tester prior to fit testing.
No eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum 15 minutes prior to testing.
Testing is performed to assure the proper fit of a respirator. The wearer must receive fitting instructions including demonstrations and to provide maximum efficiency, there must be a tight seal between the face piece and the wearer.
Qualitative fit testing involves the introduction of a harmless odorous or irritating substance into the breathing zone around the respirator being worn. If no odor or irritation is detected, a proper fit is indicated.
PaPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) - if you have failed the n95 respirator testing or wear a beard, the PaPR is required. To obtain a PaPR, refer to the Infection Control Manual under the tuberculosis section.
