EMT-Basic Training Program

EMT-Basic training is held Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, allowing for completion in four weeks. This course adheres to the 1994 U.S. Department of Transportation EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum.

The course consists of 120 hours of didactic (classroom and hands-on) training, 18 hours of in-hospital emergency room clinical time, and 24 hours of recommended ambulance ride

Hand Wrap
time. Students also are offered CPR Instructor training as an option through the American Heart Association. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs written certification examination, which if successfully completed, will grant State of Iowa and National Registry of EMTs certification as an EMT-Basic.

The EMT-Basic course is conducted on campus twice each year, from mid-May through mid-June, and early November through early December. Paramedic Specialist full-time training programs begin approximately one month after each EMT-Basic program ends. Qualified graduates of our EMT-Basic course may be offered the opportunity to progress immediately to our Paramedic Specialist full-time training or the Iowa Paramedic Outreach program. Check our calendar for the start date of our next EMT-Basic course.
