The HTC staff can request consultation with a variety of services within the hospital.

The nursing staff provides two very important services for patients seen at the HTC - education and home therapy/self infusion.

Education - The nurse provides education to a wide variety of people: patient/family; schools; employers; local health care providers; and emergency room personnel.

Home Therapy/Self Infusion - For many persons with a bleeding disorder home therapy training is a vital part of their treatment plan. The nurses at the HTC provide patients with instructions on how to infuse factor at home, and to parents how to infuse their children until they become independent. Individualized instructions ensure that each patient/family is qualified to manage most bleeding episodes at home. The instruction provided by the nurses includes calculating and preparing factor doses, practicing on models, and in some cases training in specialized relaxation techniques. Patients who are in home therapy are asked to maintain accurate, up-to-date infusion records.
