Virology Clinic
The Virology Clinic was established in 1988 to provide comprehensive care to people with HIV infection in Iowa and neighboring states. The clinic is staffed by Infectious Diseases physicians and nurse practitioners who are experienced in HIV/AIDS medical care.

HIV Testing Clinic
If you have questions about testing or you'd like to be tested for HIV in the medical setting rather than an alternate testing site, you can set up a testing appointment with the HIV nurse practitioners by calling (319) 356-8133.

Clinical Trials
When you become a Virology Clinic patient you are entered into a confidential data base used to determine eligibility for clinical trials. When research trials open that you are eligible for and that may benefit you, you will be contacted. Studies will also be publicized in the clinic newsletter.

The AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) at the University of Iowa is a federally funded research unit created to perform clinical trials in the field of HIV disease. Follow-up visits, laboratory tests, and study medications are often provided free of charge. If you are interested in participating in a research study please discuss it with your physician and contact the Clinical Trials office at (319) 353-8441.

Confidentiality Virology Clinic staff understand the confidentiality concerns of many people with HIV and are familiar with laws protecting HIV-related information. You will be asked at your first visit about your wishes relating to sharing of information with referring physicians, support agencies, or prayers, and your wishes will be respected.

Appointment Scheduling
If you have tested positive for HIV, to schedule your first appointment, call the Virology Clinic at (319) 356-8133 and ask to be scheduled as a new patient. After your first visit, you may schedule your next appointment before you leave. Appointments are needed to make sure you will be able to see your physician. Please call Scheduling (319) 356-8133 if you miss or will be late for an appointment.
