Janet K. Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN
Janet Williams is a Professor in the College of Nursing at The University of Iowa. Dr. Williams is both a genetic nurse specialist and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She joined the College of Nursing 13 years ago and began conducting research on psychosocial responses to genetic testing for Huntington's Disease.
Dr. Williams' studies include work on coping with normal results, expectations of persons undergoing predictive genetic testing for Huntington's Disease, and the impact of testing on family members. Dr. Williams is currently the Principal Investigator on a multi center study funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research. The goal for this study is to identify health concerns and health care needs of family members caring for persons with Huntington's Disease.
In addition to her research activities, Dr. Williams teaches classes on applications of clinical genetics to health care in nursing classes at the College of Nursing. She is also the co-director of the NINR funded T32 post-doctoral clinical nursing genetics fellowship program at the College of Nursing.
