IPT Training and Certification


Level A: INTRODUCTORY TRAINING IN IPT
Level B: CLINICAL TRAINING IN IPT
Level C: CLINICAL CERTIFICATION IN IPT
Level D: IPT SUPERVISOR CERTIFICATION
Level E: IPT TRAINER CERTIFICATION

INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN IPT (Level A)

  • Participation in an IPT Institute accredited training course lasting one day or more.

CLINICAL TRAINING IN IPT (Level B)

PREREQUISITES:

  • Completion of an IPT Institute accredited training course.
  • Familiarity with the IPT manual(s).1
  • Professional clinical training in mental health treatment.

IPT SUPERVISION:

  • Supervision by a certified IPT Institute supervisor for two complete IPT cases.
  • Supervision must be provided in individual or group formats.
  • Supervision must be based on audio or videotaped recordings of sessions.
  • Supervision must be a minimum of one hour of supervision per two hours of therapy.
  • IPT treatment must meet Clinical Training standards for adherence and quality.

CLINICAL CERTIFICATION IN IPT (Level C)

PREREQUISITES:

  • Completion of Clinical Training in IPT.
  • Nomination by a certified IPT Institute supervisor.

THERAPY AND SUPERVISION

  • Supervision by a certified IPT Institute supervisor for four complete IPT cases.
  • Supervision must be provided in individual or group formats.
  • Supervision must be based on audio or videotaped recordings of sessions.
  • Supervision must be a minimum of one hour of supervision per two hours of therapy.
  • IPT treatment must meet Clinical Certification standards for adherence and quality.

INDEPENDENT EVALUATION OF THERAPY

  • An IPT portfolio must be submitted for independent evaluation. The portfolio must include audio/video of a complete course of IPT and a written description of the case.
  • IPT treatment must meet Clinical Certification standards for adherence and quality as judged by an independent IPT Institute supervisor.

IPT SUPERVISOR/TRAINER CERTIFICATION (Level D)

PREREQUISITES:

  • Completion of IPT Clinical Certification.
  • Nomination by a certified IPT Institute Supervisor/Trainer.
  • Evidence of continuing practice of IPT.

TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

  • Completion of an IPT Institute certified IPT Supervisor/Trainer Workshop.
  • Co-facilitation of an accredited Introductory Course in IPT.

INDEPENDENT EVALUATION OF TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

  • An IPT training and/or supervision portfolio must be submitted for independent evaluation.
    • Training portfolios must include videotape of an IPT training course and documented course evaluations from participants
    • Supervision portfolios must include portfolio materials from an IPT supervisee and documented evaluations of supervision.
  • IPT training and/or supervision must meet Institute standards for adherence and quality as judged by an independent IPT Institute supervisor/trainer.

IPT TRAINER CERTIFICATION (Level E)

PREREQUISITES:

  • Completion of IPT Clinical Certification.
  • Nomination by a certified IPT Institute Trainer.
  • Evidence of continuing practice of IPT.

TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

  • Completion of an IPT Institute certified IPT Trainer Workshop.
  • Co-facilitation of an accredited Introductory Course in IPT.

INDEPENDENT EVALUATION OF TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

  • An IPT training portfolio must be submitted for independent evaluation.
    • Training portfolios must include videotape of an IPT training course and documented course evaluations from participants
  • IPT training must meet Institute standards for adherence and quality as judged by an independent IPT Institute supervisor/trainer.
