CLINICAL TRAINING PROGRAMS IN IPT
IPT: Introductory Course
The basic IPT didactic course is certified by the IPT Institute and meets all requirements for further clinical training and certification in IPT. The course seminar utilizes lectures, group participation, role playing, and review of expert videotapes to provide the highest quality training for participants. In addition to local courses, training in IPT can be arranged on site for interested clinical or research groups. Please contact the Institute Director for further details, or click here to learn more about IPT Courses.
Clinical Training in IPT Clinical Training in IPT is directed by an Institute certified supervisor. The clinical training is designed to provide additional experience with patients in implementing and conducting IPT. Completion of this training will provide 2 of the 4 cases required for Clinical Certification in IPT. In addition to completing a certified IPT Introductory Course, trainees must complete at least two supervised IPT cases under the direction of a certified IPT supervisor. Supervision must be done with a minimum of one hour of supervision for every two clinical contact hours. Supervision can be provided in person or remotely by phone or web conference using either audio or videotape review. Supervision must be provided in either an individual or group format. Training clinicians are strongly encouraged to work with at least two different types of patients (e.g., adult, geriatric, adolescent, perinatal) or diagnoses (e.g., depression, dysthymia, social phobia, eating disorder) for which IPT is empirically validated. Trainees will be required to conduct these supervised cases at an acceptable level of quality and adherence as judged by their supervisor.
Supervision must be provided by an IPT certified supervisor, but need not immediately follow IPT didactic training, nor be provided by the instructors of the didactic course attended by the trainee. Supervision in IPT can be arranged for interested individuals or groups. Please contact the Institute Director for further details, or click here for an application for IPT supervision.
IPT CLINICAL CERTIFICATION
The clinical certification course of study is designed to meet the requirements for Clinical Certification in IPT, and is directed by an Institute certified supervisor. In addition to completing the basic IPT Introductory Course, trainees must complete Clinical Training in IPT with at least two supervised IPT cases under the direction of a certified IPT supervisor. Nomination for IPT Clinical Certification must be obtained from a certified IPT supervisor before trainees are permitted to begin the clinical certification process.
Supervision must be conducted to the same standards as for Clinical Training in IPT. However, trainees are expected to meet a higher level of adherence and quality for their casework than for Clinical Training, and are required to treat a minimum of four IPT cases under supervision. Two of these cases may be brought forward from Clinical Training.
Trainees will also be required to submit a clinical portfolio. The portfolio must include audio and/or videotape from a complete IPT case, as well as a written description of the case. The portfolio materials must meet minimum levels of adherence and quality as judged by an independent IPT supervisor.
Supervision must be provided by an IPT certified supervisor, and typically will not immediately follow IPT didactic training. Supervision for Certification can be arranged for interested individuals or groups. Please contact the Institute Director for further details, or click here for an application for IPT supervision.
IPT SUPERVISOR/TRAINER CERTIFICATION
Applicants for IPT Supervisor/Trainer Certification must complete IPT Clinical Certification and obtain nomination from an Institute certified Supervisor or Trainer. Trainees are also required to demonstrate evidence of continuing clinical practice in IPT.
Trainees are required to complete an Institute certified course in IPT Training and Supervision. Trainers are also required to co-facilitate an accredited IPT Introductory Course with a certified IPT trainer. All trainees are required to submit portfolios; training portfolios must include videotape of an IPT training course and documented course evaluations from participants, and supervision portfolios must include portfolio materials from an IPT supervisee and documented evaluations of supervision.
IPT training and/or supervision must meet Institute standards for adherence and quality as judged by an independent IPT Institute supervisor/trainer.
Supervision must be provided by an IPT certified supervisor, but need not immediately follow basic level didactic training, nor be provided by the instructors of the didactic course attended by the trainee. Please contact the Institute Director for further details. Click here for an application form.
RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAMS
Consultation and supervision for research projects may be arranged on request. In addition to providing basic training, follow-up supervision and assurance of adherence and quality prior to starting research therapy, ongoing review of video or audio tapes for adherence and quality may also be provided. Please contact the Institute Director for further details.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION IN IPT
Clinical supervision is provided through the Institute. The supervision in IPT meets standards for Clinical Training and Clinical Certification in IPT, and is provided by certified IPT supervisors.
Supervision is provided at a minimum of one hour of supervision for every two hours of clinical work. Supervision may be on site, but phone supervision is available and is an easy and effective option for remote supervision. In every case, clinicians will need to submit video or audiotape sessions for supervisory review. The Institute has the capacity to securely up and download video and audio tapes of sessions for this purpose, and will provide instructions and secure access to supervisees. Case notes are also reviewed and trainees are given specific feedback regarding their adherence and quality in delivering IPT.
Arrangements for supervision in different languages can also be made. The Institute has developed a cadre of certified supervisors, and can help facilitate IPT supervision in several languages.
Supervision through the Institute is provided on an hourly basis. Click here for an application for IPT supervision for Clinical Training in IPT or Clinical Certification in IPT, or contact the Institute Director for further details. |
