What To Bring the Hospital


To stay in Labor and Delivery:

  • Rubber bands/barrettes for long hair.
  • Snacks for partner.
  • Hard candy.
  • Tennis balls or rolling pin for use during labor.

To stay in Post Partum:

  • Robe and/or night gowns/pajamas - these may become soiled from bleeding after delivery. Hospital gowns and robes are available.
  • Slippers and socks.
  • Several pair of underwear. The hospital will provide stick-on sanitary napkins during your stay.
  • Nursing bras and breast pads if breast feeding.
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioners, lotion, makeup, hairbrush, blow dryer, etc.)
  • Loose comfortable clothing for trip home. Remember you may not fit into non-maternity clothes right away.

Baby items:

  • Clothing is furnished by the hospital during your baby's stay. (If you prefer to dress your baby in their own clothes, please label each item with your name and notify your baby's nurse. The hospital is not responsible for lost clothing.)
  • Car seat. You will not be allowed to leave without one.
  • Baby blanket/coat for trip home.
  • Going home outfit.

Optional items:

  • Portable tape or CD player; tapes or CD's.
  • Items to pass the time (magazines, books, craft items).
  • Address book/telephone numbers of people you may want to call.
  • Camera and/or video equipment.
  • Special outfit for baby's hospital photo.
