The department is always striving to better communicate about our steps toward healing patients. Clinic location
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery utilizes the facilities of the UI Heart and Vascular Center Clinic in order to provide better service to and ease of access to our patients, including patients with Lung, Esophageal or other thoracic needs. The UI Heart and Vascular Center Clinic located straight across from elevator D on the fourth level of the Roy Carver Pavilion. There are two information desks located conveniently near main entrances on the first level if you have further location questions.
Health care team
Your examination will be directed by a staff physician. The staff physician in charge of your care is assisted by resident-physicians receiving specialty training in the area of cardiothoracic surgery. There may also be assistance provided by residents training in related fields such as surgery, intensive care, or trauma surgery and by medical students. Your clinic visit will be coordinated by a registered nurse. As needed, your visit may include contact with a vascular technologist, dietitian, physician assistant, or other members of Your Health Care Team. Insurance
Before your clinic visit, check with your insurance representative to see if your policy requires any of the following:
- Surgical second opinions
- Preadmission review
- Pre-procedure review
Cardiothoracic surgery generally requires additional measures relating to healthcare cost coverage. Please ask your physician or a nurse if you have any questions regarding the above. A social worker can also assist in understanding your insurance coverage or provide information regarding health care programs for which you may be eligible.
