Volunteers for a Clinical Study

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study for the treatment of patients with pemphigus vulgaris

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Iowa is inviting volunteers for a clinical study using infliximab (Remicade) to treat patients with pemphigus vulgaris who continue to have blisters, skin ulcers or other disease activity despite therapy with 20 mg/day or more of prednisone therapy.

The purpose of this trial is to determine the safety of infliximab given intravenously (by a tube into the vein) for the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age with a clinical diagnosis of pemphigus vulgaris and ongoing disease activity and on 20 mg/day or more of prednisone.

All potential participants will have a screening visit which will include a review of their medical history, physical examination and obtaining of a blood sample to determine their eligibility to participate in the study.

If you are interested in participating, please contact the Dermatology Clinical Trials Office at (319) 353-6439 for more information.
