Volunteers for a Clinical Study

An Open Label, Randomized, Case Study on the Effects of Xolair (Omalizumab) in Bullous Pemphigoid

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Iowa is inviting volunteers for a clinical study using omalizumab (Xolair) to treat patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP).

The purpose of this research study is to compare the effectiveness and safety of using a drug called omalizumab (also known as Xolair) for the treatment of BP compared to the use of prednisone alone.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age with a clinical diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid.  Omalizumab is considered investigational, which means that it has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of BP.

All potential participants will have a screening visit which will include a review of their medical history, physical examination and obtaining of a blood sample to determine their eligibility to participate in the study.

If you are interested in participating, please contact the Dermatology Clinical Trials Office at (319) 353-6439 for more information.
