Emergency Treatment CenterAbout usThe Emergency Treatment Center (ETC) serves as the primary source of acute, unscheduled care for more than 30,000 patients each year, admitting nearly 7,000 of those patients. Staffed by physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and support personnel, the ETC also serves as the portal for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Trauma Service. The ETC is a multidisciplinary treatment facility that works closely with all medical, surgical, and pediatric departments at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to offer the best and most appropriate care for all patients. The ETC also serves as a host facility and medical control base for the Johnson County Ambulance Service (JCAS). The ETC is a clinical training site for several residency programs at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, for medical students from the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, nursing students from the University of Iowa College of Nursing, and physician assistant students from the University of Iowa's physician assistant program. In addition, EMT and paramedic students from The Emergency Medical Services Learning Resource Center, complete clinical training in the Emergency Treatment Center.
