Emergency Medicine Residency

Instructions for Applicants



Applicants must use the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS) to apply to the residency program. ERAS materials are available through you medical school. Applicants should use ERAS to submit the following documents:

  • Common Application Form (CAF)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Dean's letter of recommendation
  • Three letters of recommendation from clinical faculty
  • One page personal statement
  • USMLE transcripts
  • Photo (optional)

Applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program and should use:

  • NRMP # 1203110 - Iowa Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Application should be submitted by the December 15th deadline.

You will be notified when your application and supporting documents have arrived and your file is complete. Please call if you are unsure about the status of your application. Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews. Interviews are held mid-October through January.

Note: If you are a graduate of a medical school outside the United States or Canada, please be advised that you must have a valid ECFMG certificate, including CSA exam, at the time of application. Evidence of one year of clinical training in an ACGME approved training program is preferred.

Non ERAS applicants may apply with the downloadable pdf application. Applicants should submit the application to Hans House, MD with a CV and personal statement as electronic attachments. Applicants may also print the application and mail it to Hans House, MD at the address below
