Instructions for Applicants

Applicants must use the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS) to apply to the residency program. US medical students should contact their Dean’s Office or ERAS: http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm. International medical graduates should contact the ECFMG: http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/.

Applicants should use ERAS to submit the following documents:

  • Common Application Form (CAF)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Dean's letter of recommendation
  • Three letters of recommendation from clinical faculty
  • One page personal statement
  • USMLE or COMPLEX transcript
  • Photo (optional)

Applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program: http://www.nrmp.org/. The NRMP numbers for our programs are:

  • 1203120C0 = Family Medicine Residency Program
  • 1203720C0 = Family Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program

Applications for July, 2010 positions should be submitted by January 1, 2010.

Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews. Interviews are held Wednesdays and Fridays November through January. Family Medicine and Family Medicine-Psychiatry interviews take one day. The interview includes ample opportunities to meet with the faculty and residents.

Accommodations are provided for out-of-town applicants.

A travel grant program is available for medical students applying to the Family Medicine program.

Candidates receiving interviews are ranked and selected based upon their interview, exam scores, letters of recommendation, CV and personal statement. Applicants are judged on academic record, professional background, personal qualities, recommendations and interviews.

International Medical Graduates: If you are a graduate of a medical school outside the United States or Canada, an ECFMG certificate must accompany your ERAS application. Preference is given to candidates who pass the USMLE on the first attempt and completed medical school training within the past five years (or been enrolled in an accredited internship or residency program within the past five years). Letters of recommendation written by supervising physicians in the US setting are very beneficial in helping us assess your ability to function in our clinical setting. We do not offer observerships or externships for international graduates at this time. Visa Policy: J1
