Department of Family Medicine

Conferences

Luncheon conferences held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are designed specifically to complement clinical learning experiences and to cover the breadth of the specialty of family medicine. On-going conference series are given in adolescent medicine, critical care, family medicine-psychiatry, morbidity and mortality rounds, women’s health, orthopaedics, management of health systems and pharmacy update. A clinical conference series consists of block topic presentations from both the consultant’s and the family medicine perspective. Family Medicine morning report is held weekday mornings with a brief review of the past 24 hours on the inpatient service followed by didactics on problems seen on the service. A conference schedule including speaker, topic, location and time is posted weekly.

A Jeopardy-style Journal Club is held monthly and consists of teams of residents and faculty who answer questions on articles published in selected issues of American Family Physician. Monthly Journal Clubs in Geriatrics and Family Medicine-Psychiatry are also offered.

A wide variety of excellent conferences are conducted by other departments in the Carver College of Medicine, and residents are encouraged to take advantage of these educational opportunities whenever possible. Conference schedules from Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Psychiatry are posted weekly in the Residents Room.
