Family Medicine Residency Programs

Vision Statement

We will prepare skilled and confident physicians for the discipline of Family Medicine who excel as leaders in their communities and in their professions.  We will provide a diverse faculty who will mentor residents in a supportive environment as they acquire the expertise necessary to fulfill their professional and personal goals.

Introduction
Welcome to the Family Medicine Residency website! Our programs are sponsored by University of Iowa Health Care. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics work together as partners in UI Health Care to provide quality health care and educational programs. The Department of Family Medicine offers unequaled opportunities for our resident physicians to excel. Our vision to continuing excellence is focused on four key concepts:

Tradition -- For 17 consecutive years U.S. News and World Report has ranked University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics among "America's Best Hospitals." The April 2006 issue of U.S. News and World Report ranks the UI Carver College of Medicine among all public and private graduate programs for medical education. Ranked programs include rural medicine (4th), family medicine (10th), primary care (10th), and research (13th). More than 188 UI Health Care physicians are also listed on the current "Best Doctors in America" database, including Drs. David Bedell, George Bergus, Richard Dobyns, John Ely, Jill Endres, Paul James, Barcey Levy, Kelly Skelly Kuehn and Jason Wilbur from the Department of Family Medicine faculty.

Innovation -- With the resources available at a major university, our department has developed an innovative selection of three residency programs to prepare you for a career in family medicine.

Adaptation -- We adapt to the changing medical environment, preparing our residents for the medicine of tomorrow, not just today. Current programs reflect the state of the art in medical education.

Collaboration -- We partner with colleagues at University of Iowa Health Care, with rural Iowa, and at international medical centers to offer unique training opportunities.

We are proud of these achievements, and prouder still of the qualities that have earned this recognition: a skilled and compassionate professional staff, an outstanding reputation for research, and a commitment to evolve and improve. Best of all, we are instilling these
