As a PK (Pastor's Kid), my family moved frequently and I have lived all over the country, but I call the Seattle area home. My undergraduate degree is from Seattle Pacific University where I was very involved in student government as Intercultural Director; a position focused on creating a campus that is welcoming and celebrating of people from all different backgrounds. In my year off between undergrad and medical school, I spent a year mentoring at-risk youth in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, WA. I went from the West Coast to the East Coast for medical school where I attended Tufts University School of Medicine. At Tufts, I was president of the Student National Medical Association and involved in mentoring minority high school students helping to foster their interest in medicine. I was fortunate enough to meet my husband, Christopher, while in Boston during my first year of medical school, and we recently got married. He is currently a Urology resident at UIHC. We chose to come to the University of Iowa for residency because of the friendly culture of the hospital and the interest the faculty has shown in resident education. I have especially enjoyed getting to know my intern class this year which is full of amazing and talented people! I have a Polynesian background and spent many years involved in performing Hawaiian dance. For fun, I am always ready to cook a meal, and go dancing! Email: denise-adams@uiowa.edu |
