I grew up in Newton, Kansas, which is close to Wichita. I attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence and earned a degree in Biochemistry. When I wasn't busy studying or doing other pre-med things, I played trumpet in the university jazz ensemble and attended as many KU basketball and football games as I could (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!). After college I moved to Kansas City and went to the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where I met my fiancé Angela. We went through the couples match together, and she is currently a Pediatrics resident. We wanted to stay somewhat close to home, but find a program that was strong in both Pediatrics and Family Medicine. We found that in Iowa! We love it here in Iowa City. It's nice to be back in a college town; you get the cultural diversity and opportunities of a larger city, without all the big-city hassle. My professional interests include preventive medicine, chronic disease, and healthcare in persons with disabilities. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the program: nicholas-gatz@uiowa.edu. |
