Meet Our Residents

Residency is a time for personal and career development. A number of mechanisms are in place to assist residents with the transition from medical school to residency, and from residency to practice. A Mentor System is in place to establish close one-on-one relationships between faculty and resident physicians and provide role models for the residents. Faculty mentors assist their residents in developing personalized learning plans, evaluating progress and professional growth, and planning future goals and practice.

New residents participate in the month-long Introduction to Family Medicine rotation. The month concludes with a Team Building/High Challenge Course at the Hawkeye Recreation Area and dinner for the interns and their families. In addition to valuable orientation session, didactics and workshops, the month provides new residents time to bond and develop support network that carry them throughout residency training.

Social activities are held throughout the year for the residents including an annual residency picnic for residents, faculty and staff and their families, holiday parties and annual Family Medicine Graduation Banquet. A Resident Retreat is held mid-year for the residents and their families at an out-of-town location.

Residents and faculty may get together at the conclusion of rotations often at the home of a faculty member or lunch at a local restaurant. Other casual activities and impromptu gatherings are frequently held by the residents.
