I grew up in a small village in Sichuan province, southwestern China, graduated as an honor from Luzhou Medical College, and served as a staff orthopedic surgeon at Luzhou Medical College Hospital for many years before I immigrated to the United States to follow my wife in the 90s. From there, my life took a detour, I earned a master’s degree in computer science, worked as a software engineer for years, joined the University of Iowa College of Medicine Physician Assistant program and graduated in 2007, then worked in a busy emergency medicine department prior to entering the residency program. I chose Family Medicine because I like to practice medicine with ultimate patient contact, and also to fully utilize my previous experience and knowledge. There is no doubt in my mind that Iowa City is one of the best places to receive my residency training: the people are awesome, supportive and considerate; the city is not big but very dynamic and rich in cultural and sports activities; the schools are great. My family, especially my two little kids, is really happy here and they already made many friends. In addition to spending time with my family, I also enjoy computer programming, biking, fishing, mountain climbing and Chinese chess. Email: bisen-xian@uiowa.edu |
