I am a lifelong Iowa resident. I was born in Atlantic, Iowa which is
the hometown of both of my parents. We moved to central Iowa when I
was very young, where I completed K-12 in Ankeny, Iowa. I competed in many
sports in high school and was the 2001 State Champion in the 110m
hurdles. I also met my wife, Hallie, as a Senior at Ankeny when she
was a Junior. I earned an honors degree in Genetics at Iowa State
University where I also ran varsity track. I got engaged to my wife my
Senior year of college. I completed medical school at the University
of Iowa. I married and had two kids while in medical school. My
wife recently completed her Master's in education and is teaching
second grade at College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, IA.
I have a two year old son named Cole who is ball of energy and a 4
month old daughter named Henlee who is my little princess. We live in
Cedar Rapids and plan on staying there after I finish training. My
clinical interests include pediatrics, chronic disease, and sports
medicine. I hope to complete a fellowship in Geriatrics before I
finish training at UIHC. I also hope to become a part-time assistant
high school track coach where I can share my love of track and field.
Besides the family and residency training, I stay busy by exercising
(including many road races and a marathon here and there),
woodworking, snow skiing, and traveling to see family in Iowa and
Missouri.
I am living proof that you can get degrees from both the
University of Iowa and Iowa State University and not burst into
flames; although I do remain loyal to my first love, ISU, when the
Cyclones and Hawkeyes meet. Feel free to email me with any questions
