Essential tremor is one of the most common movement disorders seen in clinical practice. There is no preference for either gender, but the prevalence increases with age, approaching five percent in those over 65. There is no specific treatment or cure, although various medications can ease the severity of tremor. Surgical treatment with thalamotomy or thalamic deep brain stimulation is available in to clinically eligible candidates.
