How To Apply
Application Process
All positions are presently full for the PG-2 classes of 2011 and 2012, and applications are being taken only through ERAS for the 2012 NRMP match (PG-2 year to start in July 2013). Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply through ERAS this fall.
Qualifications
Applicants are screened for interview based on a number of criteria, including but not necessarily limited to:
- Demonstration of dedication to a career in Neurology through clinical activities, research, publication or community service
- USMLE scores
- Letters of recommendation, including at least one from a U.S.-based neurologist
- Personal statement
- Medical school transcript
- Dean's letter
Interviews
Applicants are urged to submit all documents to ERAS as soon as possible so materials can be reviewed and interviews offered in a timely fashion. Interviews are conducted from early November to early January. Interview dates are limited and interested candidates are encouraged to apply early. The interview will consist of:
- Dinner the preceding night with current residents.
- Complimentary lodging for one night.
- Attendance at Stroke Rounds.
- A PowerPoint overview of the program.
- 20-minute interviews with the Chair, Program Director and Associate Program Directors.
- Lunch with current residents.
- A tour of the department and medical center.
- Based on special areas of interest, applicants scheduled for interview are encouraged to review the Neurology faculty bios, and identify any additional faculty with which they would like to meet. Please note that it may not be possible to accommodate all requests due to faculty schedules, and an additional interview may extend the duration of the interview day (plan travel accordingly).
- Candidates for the Clinical Neuroscientist Training Program [CNS-TP] will participate in an extended interview process.
Post-interview Communication
We welcome follow-up communication from our interviewed candidates, especially as you begin to compare and contrast other programs. Please direct your questions to the Program Coordinator for appropriate routing. It is our policy, consistent with the rules of the match, to not contact applicants after the interview day other than with a follow-up thank you note and any pertinent updates from the department. However, please do not conclude that this indicates a lack of interest in your application, and feel free to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
PG-1 Year
Appointments to the PG-1 preliminary year in Neurology are available to all applicants who match for the PG-2 categorical year. These positions are officially tendered through the NRMP, and conducted as a conditional match. No separate application or interview is required for PG-1 year positions. The program coordinator, Nelda Dierickx, can help explain the ranking process.
