Core Conferences
The core didactic program of the neurology residency comprises three conferences (Grand Rounds, Journal Club, Foundations of Clinical Neurology and Neuroscience). Measures are taken to protect resident time and promote conference attendance. To this goal, attendance is monitored by the chief residents and program director. Inpatient rounds and clinics are scheduled so as not to conflict with didactic conferences.
Resident attendance at other subspecialty conferences is strongly encouraged and conferences are typically held over or near the noon hour, so that residents have the opportunity to attend as many as possible. Subspecialty conferences include epilepsy, neuromuscular diseases, movement disorders, behavioral neurology, pediatric neurology, sleep disorders and neuropathology. Interdisciplinary conferences are held with the departments of Radiology, Neurosurgery and Pathology. Quality control and process improvement is discussed at quality improvement, ethics, patient care and autopsy conferences.
Stroke Rounds, held Monday-Friday at 8:00 AM, is a conference at which an interesting inpatient or consultation case from the last several days is presented as an unknown to the residents, students and presiding faculty members. Lively discussion of anatomic localization, imaging correlates and differential diagnosis is emphasized.
